By Ken Campbell, Contact Superintendent for the construction of Buffel Park, part of the Caval Ridge Project, Bowen Basin, Queensland.

From June 2012 to June 2014 I worked as the Contract Superintendent for the construction of Buffel Park Accommodation Village which was a $200M supply and construction of a 2500 man village
and part of Caval Ridge Project, a $4.8B coal mining project.

My role on this project was the direction management of the construction contractors who were building the Buffel Park Village. The lead contract was Decmil Australia and PHP Contracting was contracted to Decmil to complete the plumbing infrastructure including a major Sewerage Treatment Plant.

In the years I managed and supervised these works I dealt extensively with PHP who I found to be:

  • Very safety conscious and capable of working within the rigorous requirements of the site safety systems. The Caval Ridge Project was completed with 5 Millionhours of labour LTI free. PHP Contracting contributed to this rare and enviable achievement.
  • Professional and easy to deal with. Every time I requested an action it was promptly carried out without ceremony or issue or requirement to follow up.
  • Technically very competent. PHP are a competent plumbing and mechanical services contractor. PHP demonstrated to me on numerous occasions their level of technical competence with the construction of a complex Sewerage Treatment Plant ( with a capacity of more than 2500 people ) potable and fire water ring main systems.
  • Able and happy to trouble shoot and problem solve when site issues did arise and required experienced supervision and operators to find the source of a problem and then resolve it. One particular example of this I would specifically like to note was in April 2014 when the village was full to capacity and the STP had a blockage caused and exacerbated by design shortfalls ( in that no warning of or method to prevent the blockage existed ) threatened to cause the closure and evacuation of the village. PHP site personnel jumped straight to the assistance of the village maintenance contractor and worked amidst a group of contractors who after some 6 hours of unpaid investigation and problem solving resolved the blockage and the village remained open.
I enjoyed my years as superintendent on this prestigious project and one of the reasons was the high level of competent and capable contractor onsite and PHP Plumbing was certainly one of those.

I would have no hesitation in recommending PHP for any plumbing or mechanical services installation contract.

On behalf of ADCO I would like to thank you for your companys efforts on the Robina Myer Development. Throughout the project, design issues were swiftly resolved and centre constraints were always met. This, underpinned with long hours often around the clock ensured all program dates were achieved. PHPs professionalism was also reflected in the quality finish that was delivered. Your foreman Stephen Thornton's commitment and attitude to the project was of the highest standard. Steve was a pleasure to work with

For over six years PHP Contractors have undertaken a wide variety of hydraulic services projects as a subcontractor to Watpac Specialty Services. Several of these projects have been within the health industry, where we have found them to be knowledgeable and professional in their duties as a subcontractor. We continue to utilise PHP Contractors for several of our key projects which is testament to our confidence in their abilities
